Free Throw Championship Names Local Champions for 2011
In between the snowstorms of this heavy winter local youth turned out
for fun and competition at the 2011
Knights of Columbus
International
Free Throw Championship which was held on
January 16th at Our Lady of Mercy Parish Center.
The K of C sponsors the program annually around the world to promote youth
and family activities. All boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 were
invited
to compete for some prizes and the chance to advance to district, then
perhaps
regional and state contests.
Nine winners were named local champions and earned the right
to compete
at the district level. Sam Colossale was the 10 year old boys winner.
Desiree Wesoloski was best among the 10 year old girls.
Jessica Masco won in the 11 year old girls group.
Shawn Simoneau won in the 11 year old boys group.
Stephanie Martino was the 12 year old girls champ
and Xavier Wellington shot best among the 12 year old boys.
Robert Pezzulo was the boys 13 year old champ
accompanied by Rachel Lancaster as best among 13 year old girls.
Sarah Thompson captured the title in the 14 year old girls group.
Runners-up were Cheyenne Emmendorfer for the 10
year old girls,
Joe Capozzi for the 10 year old boys, Erin Brochu for the 11 year old girls;
Jared Demmons for the 11 year old boys, Storm Caswell for the 12 year old
girls;
and Daniel Costantini for the 12 year old boys.
Other contestants were 10 year old boy, Tegan
Brochu,
11 year old girl Grace Colossale, and 12 year old boy Jacob Vicinus.
Community sponsor J.R. Heating and Cooling
contributed towards prizes
for winners and runners-up in each age group category.
